What's New at Troy??
SCHOOL YARD SCRIBBLES
It seems that summer showed up just in time for
school to start back up! We have several new staff at the elementary
school this year. We would like to welcome to the Troy School
family: Sheri Stenersen who will be teaching 1st grade, Heather
Smith who will be teaching 2nd grade and Kate Ells who will be
teaching a multiage 2nd/3rd grade class. Sarah Desrosiers will
be stepping in to teach 5th grade while Bill Parkman is serving
overseas in Iraq. Kelly Smith, our primary Physical Education
teacher, has transferred to another school and Matt Hickey will
be taking her place.
The No Child Left Alone Program is expanding this year to offer
before school services as well as after school services. The program
started on August 27th, along with the school year and will run
in conjunction with the school schedule. Look for information
to come home with your students, or you can call Jean Isgro at
242-7742. The summer program was very successful and we’d
like to thank all the people who helped to make it so.
The PTO fall fundraiser is kicking off early this year! The fundraiser
will run from Thursday September 4th through Thursday September
25th. We have signed on with Genevieve this year and will have
a larger variety of items for sale as a result. We are also excited
to have a Webkinz drawing for students who meet the sales criteria,
and there is an option for internet sales as well. Delivery will
be on October 23rd, which is also Pumpkin Carving Night. Look
for information and fundraising packets to come home with your
students next week.
Open House will be held on Monday September 8th at 7:00pm. Parents
are asked to assemble in the Elaine Merrifield Multipurpose room
for a brief meeting prior to visiting their children’s classrooms.
The PTO will hold its first meeting of the year at 6:00, prior
to the open house in the EMMR. The meeting is open to the public
and all are welcome to attend! Regular meetings are typically
held on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00. Come see how
you can help support our students and teachers.
On Tuesday September 9th, from 8:00AM to 7:00PM there will be
voting held in the EMMR. This second session of a special district
meeting is being held so that members of the town and school district
may vote on a 4 year contract for the teachers in the MRSD. This
is a very important vote, and the PTO encourages everyone to vote
yes in support of our teachers.
School pictures will be taken on Friday September 26th.
