About Our Program
Wilcox BuildingWhat is Title I?   Title I is a federally funded program which provides extra help to children who are working below grade level in their school instructional program. Title I programs are located in schools meeting specific federal guidelines.

How are students enrolled in Title I?   Students are identified for Title I based upon available information from all or some of the following sources: standardized achievement tests, previous and present classroom teachers, referral from parent or guidance counselor.

Title I - SAU #38   Title I in SAU #38 is funded at $390,449.00. The program has six staff members in four public schools.

Title I provides services for approximately 75 pupils in elementary school grades. Tutorial help in language and literacy is provided to those pupils who are determined to be most in need. Northern towns will provide support in grades 1, 2 and 3. Mt. Caesar will provide math support to grades 2 and 3.

In addition to offering the Title I pupils an opportunity to work toward higher academic standards, the Title I staff also fosters positive self-worth and self-esteem. This helps the pupils to feel good about themselves as learners and as productive members of their school community.

Parents are encouraged to meet Title I staff and to visit Title I classrooms.

Extended Day Kindergarten   The Extended Day Kindergarten program will be offered at Troy Elementary School and Mt. Caesar School. This program is designed to provide at-risk kindergarten children with intervention at the earliest possible time. Qualifying children will be invited to take part in additional literacy learning opportunities by spending the whole day at school.
